Warriors on the warfront

Sport
Marvelous Nakamba

WARRIORS stars Marvelous Nakamba and Marshall Munetsi are expected to return to action this weekend for their respective European clubs following their recoveries from injury.

Nakamba, who is at Championship side Luton Town on loan from Aston Villa, picked a knock in the team's last match against league leaders Burnley last week, and was a major doubt for this afternoon’s clash against Birmingham City.

The sight of him limping off midway through the second half was a huge concern for his team and the midfielder’s fans back home as he had been dogged by injuries in his time in England.

But Luton manager Rob Edwards has given a positive update on the 29- year old ahead of today's match.

“Marvelous was starting to tighten up with his groin [against Burnley], but he is available,” confirmed Edwards in his pre-match conference.

Edwards has been delighted with Nakamba’s impact so far, describing him as a “Duracell battery.”

“I thought he was marvelous! I did, I thought he was great. He is like a Duracell battery, he just kept going and going and going and going and going.

“I thought he was outstanding, covers the pitch so well, smells the danger and then really calm with the ball, I’m delighted with him.”

Nakamba's recovery is good news for Luton who are looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley that saw them slipping from fourth position down to sixth in the Championship table.

Victory could see them return to fourth position while another defeat might see them drop to ninth.

Luton would be hoping to finish the season inside the top six to qualify for the play-offs for league promotion.

The top two sides, currently occupied by runaway leaders Burnley and Sheffield United get automatic promotion to the English Premier League while teams from third position to sixth contest in a playoff to win the third promotion ticket.

Meanwhile, Munetsi is also set to return for his French Ligue 1 side Stade Reims after recovering from an injury that kept him out last weekend.

The midfielder, who is enjoying a good run of form, missed the 0-0 stalemate against Nice last week due to a hip injury.

But reports from France yesterday suggested that he has fully recovered and could feature at home against Toulouse tomorrow.

Going into the match, Reims are 10th on the log table, just two points and a place above Toulouse, who have wowed fans across France with their enterprising attacking style under former Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier.

Elsewhere, Tino Kadewere would be looking to score his second goal in the La Liga when his Mallorca side travel to Espanyol this afternoon.

The Warriors striker broke his La Liga duck last week on his first start for the side, opening the scoring in the 4-2 win over Villarreal.

With the goal, he made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean to score a goal in the Spanish topflight league.

In the English Premier League, Jordan Zemura's Bournemouth host Manchester City this afternoon with the Cherries desperate to pick points in their battle to escape relegation.

The Warriors defender is a regular for his side and is expected to line up against Pep Guardiola's galaxy of stars.
