Jesi, Musharu bolster Chiefs

Bulawayo Chiefs, who lost a number of senior players, have also enlisted the services of former Warriors’ skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri, who has seen his career blighted by injury.

BULAWAYO Chiefs have bolstered their squad ahead of the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season by bringing on board midfielder Last Jesi and veteran striker Kuda Musharu.

The duo has signed one-year contracts with The Ninjas, who take on league champions FC Platinum in the Castle Challenge Cup final at Mandava Stadium next weekend.

Chiefs play their first league match at home against Ngezi Platinum Stars on the weekend of March 18-19.

Jesi (28) was previously with Ngezi Platinum while Musharu (36) last played for Zifa Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision last year.

Talen Vision was coached by Lizwe Sweswe, who is now the head coach at Bulawayo Chiefs.

Sweswe yesterday confirmed the new signings.

“The two have been signed on one-year contracts and I believe that their experience will add value to the team. They will be available for selection for the Castle Challenge Cup,” Sweswe said.

The highlight of Jesi’s career was when he joined Al Hilal of Sudan in 2020 from Manica Diamonds while he was on loan to FC Platinum but his stay there was short lived and he returned home to join Ngezi Platinum before his latest move to Chiefs.

Musharu is a veteran of the game who has played for Underhill, Monomotapa, Motor Action and How Mine.

At How Mine he shared the Golden Boot award with Charles Sibanda, then of Highlanders, in 2014 when they scored 12 goals apiece and were both soccer star of the year finalists.

Bulawayo Chiefs, who lost a number of senior players, have also enlisted the services of former Warriors’ skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri, who has seen his career blighted by injury.

Phiri (34) enjoyed a good spell at South African top league side Golden Arrows before he was offloaded in 2021 but says he is now fit and ready to roll for The Ninjas.
