CoMZ retains Thomas Gono-led presidium

THE Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (CoMZ) has retained the Thomas Gono-led presidium to lead the organisation until next year, NewsDay Business can report.

THE Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (CoMZ) has retained the Thomas Gono-led presidium to lead the organisation until next year, NewsDay Business can report.

The presidium, consisting of Gono as president, John Musekiwa of Zimasco as first vice-president, and Munashe Shava of Kuvimba Mining House as the second vice-president, was re-elected on Tuesday during the CoMZ annual general meeting in Victoria Falls.

Gono is the Golden Reef chief executive officer.

He took over from Colin Chibafa last year, who had been at the helm of the chamber since 2021.

When he took over last year, he told NewsDay Business that his main priority was to address issues that undermined mining operations’ viability, such as power shortages and foreign exchange constraints that had resulted in output declines in the first half of 2023.

The chamber is holding an annual conference in Victoria Falls.

Running under the theme “Unlocking Growth Potential for the Zimbabwe Mining Industry”, the annual mining conference will end on Friday.

The theme, according to Gono, is motivated by the desire to create an environment that sustains growth to realise the economic transformation that we all desire.

That transformation is an aspiration espoused under the Vision 2030.

The event programme includes a critical minerals symposium, PGM indaba,, exhibition and side events and activities including dinners, cocktails, and a golf tournament.
