‘Research key to public health improvements’

HEALTH and Child Care minister Douglas Mombeshora said evidence-based practices and research were necessary to address challenges facing the public health sector.

HEALTH and Child Care minister Douglas Mombeshora yesterday said evidence-based practices and research were necessary to address challenges facing the public health sector.

“By conducting research that directly addresses the key health priorities outlined in these plans, we can generate knowledge that directly informs policy formulation, programme implementation, and resource allocation,” Mombeshora said while addressing delegates at the ongoing researchers and innovators annual conference in Harare.

“Research in health enables us to identify and address health disparities, understand the social determinants of health, and design interventions that are contextually appropriate and inclusive. It empowers us to develop innovative solutions to complex health challenges, promote health equity, and improve the overall well-being of our population,” Health and Child Care secretary Aspect Maunganidze said while emphasising on the need for collaborative research.

“By focusing on strengthening collaboration for research and innovation, we are taking significant strides toward achieving the goals outlined in our Vision 2030. Collaboration is not just a means to an end; it is the cornerstone of progress and transformation,” Maunganidze added.

The theme of this year’s conference is Strengthening Collaboration for Research and Innovation.
