CCC 25 get trial date

Yeukai Dzuda is the trial magistrate, while Chris Mhike and Kudzai Kadzere are representing the opposition activists who are out on $30 000 bail each.

THE trial of 25 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists arrested in Harare in January this year on a charge of holding an unsanctioned meeting is set to start on September 28.

Yeukai Dzuda is the trial magistrate, while Chris Mhike and Kudzai Kadzere are representing the opposition activists who are out on $30 000 bail each.

The accused persons include CCC’s organising secretary Amos Chibaya and an 81-year-old man who was given free bail.

Allegations are that on January 14, 2023, the accused gathered at then Budiriro legislator Costa Machingauta’s house for a meeting which police claim was unsanctioned.

Police raided the premises after a tip-off and arrested the activists following some skirmishes.
