Govt goes after land barons in Goronzonzi

THE Local Government and Public Works ministry has ordered the immediate cessation of all unauthorised land developments and stand sales by land barons including Pullhill Enterprises and its agencies at Lot 2 Stuhm in Goromonzi.

THE Local Government and Public Works ministry has ordered the immediate cessation of all unauthorised land developments and stand sales by land barons including Pullhill Enterprises and its agencies at Lot 2 Stuhm in Goromonzi.

In a statement, the ministry said Pullhill Enterprises and land barons must stop the illegal activities immediately.

“Now, therefore, the minister hereby directs Pullhill Enterprises and its agencies or any other unauthorised entities to stop the illegal developments and sale of stands on Lot 2 of Stuhm,,” the ministry said.

The ministry said it had the sole mandate to subdivide, lease  or sale urban  State land according to section 43 of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act.

“Further, the ministry is advising the public not to purchase the stands being advertised on Lot 2 of Stuhm or any other land or stands that are not authorised, as they risk losing their hard-earned money, and being prosecuted for illegal take up of urban State land,” the ministry said.

“The public is hereby informed that the land in question is urban State land under the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works.”

According to an evaluation made by Goromonzi Rural District Council, desperate land seekers were duped by land barons.

In 2019, President Emmerson Mnangagwa set up a commission to probe the issue of land allocation in the country.

The commission was chaired by Justice Tendai Uchena.

In the report, Justice Uchena  said the government lost more than US$3 billion in potential revenue to land barons.

The report implicates several politically-exposed persons mainly from Zanu PF.

However, the report has not been shared with members of the public.
