MSU wins safety award

The tertiary institution said it would continue implementing new ideas and strategies to improve its safety record and a safe and healthy working environment.

THE Midlands State University (MSU) has clinched a safety and health award for maintaining high standards at its industrial hub, Southern Eye has established.

The award was handed at the 60th national annual conference on safety and health at work held in Victoria Falls between October 4 and 6.

The MSU industrial park houses three units namely, Clothing and Textile, Chemical Manufacturing and Food Processing.

The awards were presented by the Zimbabwe Occupational Safety and Health Council in conjunction with the National Social Security Authority.

“This award recognises the university's commitment to creating a safe and healthy working environment to all employees and stakeholders,” the MSU said in a statement.

The tertiary institution said it would continue implementing new ideas and strategies to improve its safety record and a safe and healthy working environment.

MSU's achievement comes at a time there have been growing concerns by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions of companies in the Midlands capital particularly those owned by the Chinese, for failing to observe basic safety conditions at the workplace and adhere to standard labour practices.
