Valley irrigation scheme secretary Silayezelo Moyo told Southern Eye on Sunday that they entered into a contract with Velaphi Mugowera who claimed to come from FAO, with the aim of resuscitating their irrigation scheme.

ABOUT 400 members of the Valley Irrigation Scheme in Kezi, Matobo district in Matabeleland South claim to have been duped by a man masquerading as a Food and Agriculture Organisation representative.

Valley irrigation scheme secretary Silayezelo Moyo told Southern Eye on Sunday that they entered into a contract with Velaphi Mugowera who claimed to come from FAO, with the aim of resuscitating their irrigation scheme.

“He started using his new farming methods which failed us and during the period he also employed clandestine means by dogging the irrigation committee,” she said.

“He would transport tons of beans from our production to his own destination without our consent.

“He was robbing us because we did not gain anything out of the whole process. He just left without any handover/takeover process and his phone is no longer reachable."
