WARD 22 residents in Bulawayo have come together to raise funds for a woman whose four-roomed house was razed by fire recently following a suspected electrical fault.

According to the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) fire brigade, property worth US$5 000 was reduced to ashes.

Ward 22 councillor Bruce Moyo said they mobilised cash and food for the victim and will be handing them over this weekend.

“The affected individual is a 46-year-old single mother who stays with her 20-year-old child. The house was reduced to ashes and currently she is taking refuge at a neighbour’s house.

“We are gathering at Nkulumane Hall today with the donations before handing them over to the victim,” Moyo said.

BCCC acting fire officer Mhlangano Moyo said the fire started in the spare bedroom.

“Property worth US$5 000 was lost. There was also a delay in calling the fire brigade hence the extent of the damage,” he said.
