A CASE in which the wife of gospel musician, Mambo Dhuterere, is facing fraud charges in a botched car deal is back in court.
Harare magistrate Tapiwa Banda had previously removed Dhuterere’s wife, Dorcas Vambe from remand for allegedly defrauding the complainant US$16 000.
The case will resume on May 6.
Prosecutors alleged that Vambe, along with her brother Kudakwashe, who is still at large, misrepresented to the complainant that they were selling a Toyota Hilux GD6.
The duo claimed the complainant could acquire two vehicles for US$16 000, leveraging a supposed waiver granted to the singer by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for her services to the country.
The complainant allegedly handed over the money and received an affidavit committing to the delivery of the vehicles within two weeks.
However, instead of the promised cars, Mai Dhuterere gave the complainant a Ford Ranger registered in Botswana, along with assurances of a Mercedes-Benz C200 to be delivered later. The deal unravelled when the Ford Ranger was impounded by police due to a lack of valid permits.
