Sunday word: Commissioned for greater works

There is so much confusion and discord going on in today’s church because many people do not know who they are and they don’t know their area of calling

Shalom Shalom. Hope I find you all well under the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have learnt so much during this month and today we take a conclusion though this is a broad topic which can take us for months. There is so much confusion and discord going on in today’s church because many people do not know who they are and they don’t know their area of calling. This ultimately will have a great impact on the vision of the one who is leading. Misguided behavior will always result in misplaced efforts. As a result the church will end up being disjointed. Many have failed to fulfill their mandate and calling. Today as we finish our discussion, we are going to focus on different ministerial gift that are in abundance in the church but not useful.

2 Timothy 2:20-21 (KJV)

  1. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
  2. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. The above scripture clearly informs us that there are different people in the church with different duties. It shows us that people in a church have different functions and each function is there to complement the other. All those who have risen to the work of God must be prepared to stand even all the challenges that comes with it. It is critical to embrace your area of calling. If you are a vessel of gold maintain yourself in that and complement silver and wood etc. That way every effort will sum up towards fulfilling the vision of the Leader.

1 Corinthians 12:5-6 (NIV)

  1. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
  2. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. It is very crucial that all Christian men and women understand that every department or service in the church is very important. The functionality of it depends on the maturity of every member of the church. Verse 5 clearly spells that, there different kinds of services, towards the same God, inspired by the same God. Many Churches are failing to stand or fulfill their potential because of members who do not really know who they are. The vision of the house cannot be fulfilled if people are engrossed in conflict. The quicker the people understand that they give service differently to God the quicker there is sanity in the church. This will give peace to the Man of God. This will give rest to the church Leader knowing he has got mature Sons whom he can trust with assignments for the kingdom of God. I call upon all of us today to the level of maturity in understanding the dictates of our different Christian functionalities. This will surely bring sanity and peace even to those who leads us.

1 Corinthians 12:28-30 (NIV)

  1. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.
  2. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
  3. Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Here is one scripture that will teach us the many different departments in the church. God is the one who appoints us to different functions in our kingdom service. Some people have been called to the work of the pulpit and some are not called for such office. Great confusion from the devil is when every young man now feels that they are called to be pastors, prophets, evangelists teachers etc. They are focused on the pulpit because they are so excited with the power and attention they receive from the congregation. Many are immature and they end up challenging their local pastor or the founder of the ministry. This definitely brings confusion in the church and bleeds the leader. It is very important to accept and acknowledge that God has called us differently with different gifts to complement one another

Luke 10:1-3 (NIV)

  1. After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
  2. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
  3. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. God has assigned and commissioned all of us for the work of the kingdom. Here we see our Lord Jesus Christ commissioning the seventy two disciples to go and preach the word. He further informed them that the harvest is plenty. Meaning there is a lot of work to be done and there are different ways to achieve this work. All of us have been given assignments for easy functionality of the church. Some were given gifts in administration. Some were given gifts of help. You know that you easily identify people who are disadvantaged and help them. Some are good with organising, ushering, worship, whilst some with financing the gospel. Stick to your department, never interfere with the other departments. Stick to yours and perfect your area of calling. This will definitely bring easy flow of the vision of the house. The harvest is waiting for mature Sons and Daughters to fulfill the mandate of the gospel. We have all been send and we must careful not to be diverted by the devil.

2 Timothy 1:11-12 (MSG)

  1. This is the Message I’ve been set apart to proclaim as preacher, emissary, and teacher.
  2. it’s also the cause of all this trouble I’m in. But I have no regrets. I couldn’t be surer of my ground--the One I’ve trusted in can take care of what he’s trusted me to do right to the end. I am looking for people who are committed to this work. I am looking for men and women who are prepared to take stand in the areas of calling. We carry the message of Christ and the message of Christ is Love. It is the season for Men and Women of God to rise in our mandate and unite for a common purpose. The fights in the churches have costed many souls their destinies. God has trusted us by giving each and every one of us a specific area to serve him in Church. Let us run this race until the end. Let us not give up to support our Leaders. God is not an author of confusion.

As we conclude I remind you that we are the body of Christ. And the body has different parts for easy function. Some of you are the hands, stick the works of the hands. Some of us we legs, lets continue with the works of the hands without interfering with the functions of the mouth or eyes. This will help the church to grow and expand. It will be able to reach out to the ends of the earth. I wish well during the course of this week. Let us meet next week as we continue sharing the word of God. We are all commissioned for greater works. Shalom!!!
