Chicken Inn need a point

Sport
Chicken Inn FC

CHICKEN Inn will need just a point in their last game against Triangle at home to finish as runners-up in the 2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

The GameCocks pushed for the title for the better part of the season, but faltered in the second half of the season and surrendered the championship to FC Platinum, leaving them to tussle for the second place with Dynamos.

They could have guaranteed themselves the spot had they won their match against Yadah on Friday after Herentals beat Dynamos on Sunday.

Chicken Inn were the runners-up in 2019 before the COVID-19-induced shutdown of local football.

FC Platinum could end the season on 75 points if they beat Cranborne Bullets in front of their fans at the weekend, on a day they will officially be crowned champions.

With the top three more or less decided, the tussle for the fourth spot on the log standings is between Ngezi Platinum Stars and Highlanders.

After the weekend games, Ngezi Platinum, with 52 points, claimed the spot despite a goalless draw with Manica Diamonds, while Highlanders are a point behind after a 1-1 draw with ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields Stadium.

On the last day, Ngezi Platinum clash with WhaWha, while Highlanders date relegated Harare City at the National Sports Stadium.

Tenax, WhaWha and Harare City have already been relegated, while Bulawayo City will most likely join them given they have to beat Black Rhinos by more than 10 goals to leapfrog ZPC Kariba, who are on 36 points and pray that the power utility side loses to Herentals.

A point in that game will render the Bulawayo City game meaningless.
