Zemura set to leave Bournemouth

ENGLAND-BORN Warriors’ fullback Jordan Zemura

ENGLAND-BORN Warriors’ fullback Jordan Zemura is believed to be angling for a move away from the English Premier League when his contract with Bournemouth expires at the end of the season.

Zemura is currently embroiled in a contractual feud with the Dorset-based struggling side and has been left out of the squad for the past two matches as the dispute rages on.

But it is understood that the 23-year-old defender has made up his mind about leaving as a free agent at the end of the season and is believed to have already held talks with teams from outside England.

United Kingdom sports radio station Talksport revealed that Zemura may never play for Bournemouth again as his contract situation remains unresolved.

“Contract rebel Jordan Zemura appears to have played his last Bournemouth game. Academy graduate Zemura has been left out of the squad for the Cherries’ past two matches after failing to respond to the offer of a new deal,” Talksport wrote on its website last week.

“The leftback will be a free agent at the end of the season and it is believed he has already held talks with overseas clubs. Londoner Zemura (23), has made 19 Premier League appearances this season,” the website added.

The Zimbabwean international has played three league matches for Bournemouth after he was left out of matches against Liverpool, Aston Villa and this past weekend, in the important win over Fulham.

Bournemouth are fighting for survival in the topflight league and currently sit 17th in the 20-team competition with 27 points from 28 matches.

The club’s struggles in the league may be a factor in the contract stalemate as the player does not fancy going down with the club amid perceived interest from other teams in the division.

Zemura has made 61 senior appearances for Cherries to date and joined from Charlton Athletic in 2019 and had a one-year contract extension triggered in March 2020.

He has recently been linked with several Premier League teams namely West Ham United, Newcastle United, Leeds United and Aston Villa.

The player was left out of the matchday squad in the famous 1–0  victory over Liverpool three weeks ago ahead of the international break  after it emerged that the full-back and his representatives had failed to engage with the club despite a new deal being offered.

Interestingly Zemura expressed his desire to stay at the club back in December.

“I will see what the situation will cover with the new owners. I’m focusing on myself as a player firstly, and the club will need to focus on what it needs to do first,” Zemura said in an interview with BBC Radio Solent.

“I’m not too worried about the takeover. I love this place and with everything going well, I have no reason to leave. I’m 22, this will be my first serious contract and something I can’t rush. With my age, it’s something that I’m supposed to be sure of for the sake of my career,” he said.

Despite the player’s impressive performances for the club in the past four years, Spotrac, which is the largest sports system for team payrolls reported that Zemura is one of the lowest-paid in the English Premier League on a weekly wage of just £385 last year.
