Big blow for Dynamos

Machope (29) was a revelation for the Shamva-based side after joining the club from Division One during the mid-season transfer window in July.

DYNAMOS have suffered a huge transfer blow after their top target Tymon Machope extended his stay with Simba Bhora.

Machope (29) was a revelation for the Shamva-based side after joining the club from Division One during the mid-season transfer window in July.

He featured in 12 games for the club, but managed to score 7 goals, six behind Golden Boot winner Takunda Benhura of Ngezi Platinum Stars who played the entire season.

Machope's outrageous scoring ratio of a goal every two matches makes him a rising deadly striker.

NewsDay understands that Dynamos had listed the striker as one of their priority targets to bolster their squad for the Caf Confederations Cup next year.

But, the lanky striker who was instrumental in Simba Bhora's relegation survival in their debut season has committed his future to the Tonderai Ndiraya-coached side. The club announced yesterday that Machope, whose initial six months deal expires on December 31, has extended the contract.

“Tymon Machope has inked a new two-year deal, ending speculation over a potential exit,” the club wrote on their social media pages yesterday.

The former Midway FC forward was one of the strikers on Dynamos’ wishlist alongside Bulawayo Chiefs' Obriel Chirinda who is also wanted by league champions Ngezi Platinum Stars.

DeMbare vice chairperson Vincent Chawonza has publicly stated their desire to sign a reliable goalscorer who can spearhead their campaign in the Caf Confederations Cup.

The Harare giants are returning to the African Safari for the first time in nine years after winning the Chibuku Super Cup in the just ended season.

However, the Genesis Mangombe-coached side are not convinced they have the right material upfront to lead their attack in the continent's second tier club football competition.

Their top goal scorers last season, Donald Mudadi, a midfielder and young Elton Chikona, scored five goals each, with the latter featuring mostly as a substitute.

The quartet of Eli Ilunga, Nyasha Chintuli, Tinashe Makanda and Jayden Bakari, who arrived at the start of the season with the mandate to provide the needed goals, failed to live up to expectations. They could only manage five goals between them the whole season.

Mangombe's men had the best defence in the league last term, conceding just 16 goals. Many believe that had their strikers fared better, they could have easily won the league title.

Dynamos finished third in a title race which was won by Ngezi Platinum Stars with Manica Diamonds finishing second.
