My Dear People
When I acquired my PhD in record time there was a lot of hullabaloo with some of you going to the extent of insulting me and my family.
Some questioned my capacity to pursue education at the highest level.
The coup gang even went to the extent of arresting the then vice chancellor on allegations that he facilitated the awarding of the fraudulent PhD.
I have been following with keen interest Dr Amai II collecting degrees, including PhDs like there is no tomorrow.
On Friday, she was awarded a PhD by the Midlands State University. We were told the degree was earned.
It is ironic that her academic prowess only started manifesting after the cowardly coup against Gushungo. No one is telling her that degrees are not sexually transmitted or scrutinising her thesis like was the case with me.
The double standards are unseating.

In the last week the majority of the country’s citizens have been commemorating, with profoundly deep regret, that day seven years ago when they ill-advisedly tumbled onto the streets to march for Gushungo to be removed by that illegal coup and usher in a new regime led by Scarfmore.
Never has the saying ‘be careful what you wish for’ been more apt to describe the hugely naïve belief by those who marched in the streets that the removal of the wisdom-imbued Gushungo would usher the country into a land of milk and honey.
How wrong they were!!!
Instead that march ushered in the Scarfmore-led dispensation of poverty, darkness and confusion that has undoubtedly turned the country’s citizens who had been swimmers in the sea of optimism into huddled figures in the backwater of despair.
Under this coup regime, poverty has become commonplace in the country exacerbated by the introduction of failed currencies namely the Zimbabwe dollar and now the funny money called the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) which have severely eroded the incomes and savings of the country’s citizens, reducing most to paupers.
The former Chitungwiza employee whose earnings of more than US$5 000 were whittled down to a worthless two ZiG is just one of the many victims of the Scarfmore regime’s currency gymnastics characterised by imposition of thumb suck exchange rates that defy market logic.
The country’s citizens learnt with shock from John the Second, on a Friday afternoon in September this year, that the ZiG amounts in their pockets and bank accounts had been devalued by more than 40% . This was less than six months after the central bank launched the funny money in April amid pomp, fanfare and farcical claims that the newly launched currency was solidly backed by tonnes of gold and millions of dollars in forex which would make it a game changer in currency stability.
The regime that ousted Gushungo has also proved itself to be a dispensation of darkness with the unprecedented power outages of up to 18 hours daily since the scarfed one was propelled into office through guns and tanks.
Gushungo might have had his weaknesses, which were grossly exaggerated, but even he did not preside over power outages of such magnitude that have crippled the country’s business sector and the economy as a whole.
Even demonstrations which were allowed, within reason, during Gushungo’s time have been banned by the coup regime to the extent that even one person holding a demo can be arrested.
Under Scarfmore, even those who gather for parties at private residences can also be thrown into jail as the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) senior opposition party member James Timba and others found out to their cost.
I could write a book or two on just how the country has gone to the dogs since the scarfed one took over from Gushungo but I am sure you, my dear people, are experiencing, first hand, the cluelessness and incompetence of Scarfmore and how poorer the country is without the telescopic foresight of Gushungo.
Munopengaaa!!!
Finance permanent secretary George Guvamatanga has told government departments to tighten their belts by cutting fuel allocations and drastically reducing travel and other expenses.
He pointed to the “substantial mismatch” caused by the 43% devaluation of the supposedly gold backed ZiG.
This goes to show that the regime is broke with government taxes having been severely reduced by its scorched earth exchange rate policies on formal businesses which have either scaled down or closed shop as a result.
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority revealed that company tax now makes up just less than 10% of government revenue down from just over 15% in 2022.
Indeed this is a classic case of the regime shooting itself in the foot which has been a recurring theme within the so called Second Repubric.
It is, however, ironic in the extreme that as Guvamatanga is preaching the need to cut costs, his boss Scarfmore has just blown millions of dollars taking a bloated delegation in excess of 230 people which included family members and hangers on, using luxury planes, to a climate change summit in Azerbaijan.
This junket was amid the country’s worst drought in 40 years. This just goes to show that common sense is not so common within the Scarfmore regime.
The Sadc snoozefest held last week was noticeable for the no show of most of the region’s leaders as it was for the way the summit ignored the violence and unrest in Mozambique following the disputed election results in that country.
Only a handful of the invited regional leaders showed up with most sending representatives.
That Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema decided his time was better spent meeting American comedian Steve Harvey spoke volumes of how low on the list of priorities the Sadc talkshop was on the radar of some of the regional leaders.
It is shocking that the violence in Mozambique received such scant attention at the summit and once again it shows why this regional grouping is as toothless as it is useless. That the scarfed one, whose election last year was panned by the same regional body, is the one who chaired the meeting reflects poorly on the grouping and rightly raises questions over its relevance.
