Citygirl returns after three-year break

The 45-year-old’s single comes with the Word of God that warns people to be mindful that if a person follows the devil’s path there would always be consequences to come.

Gospel musician Citygirl Thomas will soon release a single titled Dzokera after a three- year hiatus.

Speaking to Standard Style, Citygirl said she was inspired to release the single due to the prevalence of deviant behaviour among the youths.

“I decided to release this single because our youths are engaging in massive drug abuse, prostitution and some people are killing each other specifically for rituals, therefore, it is high time the people turn to God,” she said.

“I also noticed that the devil is at play and the people have suffered so much and where we thought there is great potential to make it into life it has gone the opposite way.”

The 45-year-old’s single comes with the Word of God that warns people to be mindful that if a person follows the devil’s path there would always be consequences to come.

She said: “Basically, the song warns about what happens when a person has left God to live the devil’s way of life and there will be consequences that follow when the devil is using that person that include destruction of personal wealth stolen by the devil, life and children’s future destroyed.”

“It encourages people to come to Christ because the book of John 10 vs 10 says 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.’ I love that Jesus' desire for us is not merely to exist or cope with our circumstances, but to live abundantly’”.

Citygirl is the wife of Emmanuel Thomas, a former member of the Frontline Kids, a band that played Afro-acid fusion of jiti and Western music, now a pastor  at Disciples Fellowship International Church at Ushewokunze high-density suburb in Harare.

On the latest offering she sought the help of some session musicians as she was very particular with her project.

“My fans should expect an explosion, I requested my husband to hire the best musicians, hence we involved Spencer ‘The Bolt Cutter’ Khumulani [bass], Jonathan ‘Wizard’ Mugazi [keybody], Collin ‘Drum Teacher’ Tom and Emmanuel [the husband who is celebrating 46 years of playing guitars],” she said.

To date Citygirl has released five singles Xenophobic Effects, Tribute to Tuku, Cyclone Idai, Corona — Mwari Pindirayi and Zakeo (album).
