THE police officer investigating the case involving Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry, had his WhatsApp account hacked with the profile picture now displaying pornographic material.
Detective Assistant Inspector Luxon Saurowe is leading investigations in the cases in which Marry is accused of attempting to kill her husband, fraud, money laundering and externalisation of foreign currency.
Saurowe’s WhatsApp account was reportedly hacked on Wednesday and started displaying pornographic material to the chagrin of his contacts, who reportedly questioned his mental status.
After being inundated with inquiries over the profile picture on his WhatsApp account, Saurowe went on his Facebook timeline on Thursday to apologise to his contacts.
“An apology to all my Econet WhatsApp contacts and family members and friends. My account is hacked and is displaying pornographic material on the profile picture. I am unable to access the account such that I may delete the account,” Saurowe wrote on his timeline.
Efforts to get a comment from Saurowe yesterday were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable.
However, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that indeed Saurowe’s account had been hacked, but distanced the incident from Marry’s case.

“Yes it’s true that DAI Saurowe’s phone was hacked, but that has nothing to do with the case he is investigating. Some people sent him a message on WhatsApp informing him that they wanted to send him some material and that’s the material that caused his phone to be hacked. The issue has nothing to do at all with Mubaiwa’s (Marry) case,” said Nyathi.
Marry has been in custody since December 14 after the magistrates court denied her bail.
She has since approached the High Court and Justice Pisirai Kwenda last week reserved judgement in her latest bail appeal.
