Page Poetry Alive and Moto Republik have joined hands to launch a digital poetry slam to allow poetry lovers to participate in and also enjoy poetry from the comfort of their homes during the 21-day lockdown put in place by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The slam, titled Slam.ZW – The Lockdown Poetry Knock-Outs, aims to bring together the country’s best slam poets to battle it out from the 10th to the 17th of April, 2020, for the first price of US$300, second price of US$200 and third price of US$150.
“This project is a kiss across art forms, spoken word meets digital storytelling in this Slam which is a beautiful mix,” said Peggie Shangwa aka UMind!?, the brains behind Page Poetry Alive.
The audience will be the judges of the slam, dubbed Zimbabwe’s first-ever digital poetry slam, which will be shown on the Moto Republik Facebook page.
A surprise reveal will be done on the 10th of April on both Moto Republik and Page Poetry Alive facebook pages.
“We just turned three as Page Poetry Alive last month and we continue to explore how else we can sustain the business of art and collaboration is our strength as the new kids on the block,” said Shangwa.

Moto Republik has a long-standing relationship with Page Poetry Alive as they have collaborated on past projects.
“We also both identify as creative hubs so it was inevitable that we would collaborate on such a project,” said Hub Assistant for Moto Republik, Yolanda Ndlovu.
“We believe it is key to find ways to support artistic expression in these uncertain times of Covid-19 and what better way to do that than to get some amazing poets to battle it out online?”
Moto Republik is also set to launch a virtual artists’ accelerator programme during the lockdown.
