Shurugwi-based businessman Nicholas Gara, who owned the former Premier Soccer League club Nichrut, has signed a sponsorship deal to reward top perfomers in the league on a weekly basis.

FIVE years after disbanding, Nichrut has bounced back in the Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League, albeit as a sponsor for the Division One League this time around.

Shurugwi-based businessman Nicholas Gara, who owned the former Premier Soccer League club Nichrut, has signed a sponsorship deal to reward top perfomers in the league on a weekly basis.

The sponsorship will benefit top-performing goalkeepers, weekly top goalscorer as well as the excelling coach.

Central Region's board member in-charge of marketing and corporate affairs Pithias Shoko revealed the new deal.

"Of course, we are getting this deal half way through the season but we hope it will increase the excitement and improve the competition as well," Shoko said.

"We really appreciate Nichrut for coming on board at a time when sponsorship is hard to come by and we are going to guard it jealousy so that we maintain this relationship going forward.

"It comes at a time when the teams will be fighting for positions with some wanting the championship title while others are trying to survive the chop.”

Meanwhile, Gweru-based side TelOne remain on course to bounce back into the PSL.

The WiFi Boys are unbeaten after 15 rounds of matches as they occupy pole position in the 14-team league, with 39 points on their tally.

The Tendai Chikuni-coached side has garnered 12 wins and three draws. At this point, they remain the only unbeaten team in the league.

Challengers Tongogara, FC Platinum Under-19 and ZPC Munyati have been blowing hot and cold.

Former PSL side Chapungu has not lived up to expectations, as it sits fifth on the log standings, with 24 points on its tally.
