Stage set for visual arts awards ceremony

THE stage is set for this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards where some visual artists will be honoured tomorrow at a ceremony set for the National Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) in Harare.

In a statement, NGZ confirmed that the gallery’s board chairperson Justice Maphios Cheda will be the guest of honour at the ceremony.

The shortlisted artists include Keith Zenda, Petros Mwenga and Daniel Chirumure all under the painting category, with Rickson Zavare, Victor Nyakauru, Collen Nyanhongo and Ngonidzashe Tsiga, under sculpture and sculptural installations.

To fight for honours under mixed media are Damien Grant, Johnson Mugabe and Semina Mpofu, while Stone Beattie Munodawafa and Tinashe Muskwe will tussle for honours under the architecture category.

The duo of Grace Nyahangare and Dumisani Ndlovhu are battling for honours under the printmaking category.

“From each of the categories, third, second and first prizes shall be offered, and a commendation for the best young artist will feature. The most sterling artist shall be awarded the Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards grand prize,” the organisers said in a statement.
