Gwanda council to repossesses undeveloped stands

GWANDA

GWANDA municipality has announced plans to repossess 190 residential stands in the Matabeleland South capital after the owners failed to develop them within the stipulated period.

The stands are located in Hlalani Kuhle, Jahunda Ultra High, Spiztkop North, Jahunda Infill and Spitzkop Medium, according to a notice issued by Gwanda town clerk, Pricillah Nkala yesterday.

“Notice is hereby given in terms of Section 152(2) of the Urban Council Act (Chapter 29:15) that is the intention of the Municipality of Gwanda to repossess and reallocate stands listed hereunder to other applicants on the Council waiting list, following that the original allotes have failed to meet stipulated conditions of council,” the notice in part reads.

“Beneficiaries of the listed stands are advised to commence development on their stands before November 25 2022.”

Yesterday, Gwanda Mayor Njabulo Siziba said the council wanted to do an audit of unoccupied stands amid indications that the towns’ waiting list keeps increasing while some stands were lying idle.

“We want to audit the stands and give notices to the owners. After the notice they will then negotiate with the council whether they still want the stands or not,” Siziba said in an interview.

“The stands, some which are more than 10 years old, have been left undeveloped for too long so the repossession will happen to determine who is still willing to develop and build on those stands.”

Siziba said residents on the council waiting list will be given first preference when the council starts selling the repossessed stands.
