Mother demands justice for sodomised son

Mother demands justice.

A 35-YEAR-OLD Gweru woman whose son was allegedly sexually abused by a neighbour’s son is demanding justice after she reported the case to the police on November 11 last year, but no action has been taken on the culprit. The woman (who could not be named to protect the identity of the minor) told Southern Eye yesterday that she suspects that police officers at Mtapa Police Station where the 14-year-old accused’s father works as a police constabulary were covering up for him. “Up to now we haven’t gone to court,” she said.A letter dated April 28, 2022 written to the woman by officer commanding Gweru Urban district, Chief Superintendent Tambudzai Gumpo partly reads: “In your letter, you mentioned that you reported the case at Mtapa Police Station where your son (name given) was a victim of aggravated indecent assault.“You stated that the accused (name given) is a son to one police constabulary named (name given). Due to this fact, it is your belief that this case has taken too long to come to court and you suspect that the accused is being favoured as he is a police constabulary’s son.”During that time Gumpo revealed that a docket had been opened and the accused would appear in court on April 29.The matter is, however, still to be heard in court.  A medical report seen by this publication dated November 26, 2021 indicates that the boy had been “sexually abused several times”.The report showed tests including HIV were carried out and counselling for the minor was recommended.
