Witnesses receive 260 hand-washing units

Jehova's Witnesses church

JEHOVAH’S Witnesses have received 260 units of portable hand-washing stations, a hygiene initiative meant to curb COVID-19 and promote high standards of hygiene at places of worship.

In a statement, the national spokesperson of Jehovah's Witnesses of Zimbabwe, Kudakwashe Chikuvadze said new hand-washing stations would be put in all kingdom halls around the country.

“We have a goal to install portable hand-washing stations at various entry points in all places of worship and we believe this will go a long way in protecting our congregants from contagious diseases such as COVID-19.”

The hand-washing stations are part of a global educational work which is supported by voluntary donations and are not for sale. Chikuvadze said the hand-washing stations were donated by a sister branch in Korea.

There are more than 50 000 Jehovah’s Witnesses in Zimbabwe, in more than 1 321 congregations. Like Witnesses across the world, they only resumed holding in-person meetings on April 1 this year, two years after closing their worship buildings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They also resumed public ministry at the beginning of October this year which they suspended in March 2020 in response to the pandemic.
