Soccer tournament to curb drug abuse on the cards

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor for ward 26 in Bulawayo Mpumelelo Moyo has organised a soccer tournament aimed at fighting drug abuse among youths.

The tournament has been set for December 3, 2022, at Food4Less grounds as part of an initiative to keep youths preoccupied.

“The soccer tournament will not only take away youth from drugs but also identify Emganwini talents and promote healthy living,” Moyo said.

“Football scouts have been invited and winning teams will be given different prizes. The top goalscorer, player of the tournament and goalkeeper of the tournament will also receive prizes.”

He said the tournament would be funded from donations and his own money.

“The tournament will feature Emganwini teams. Entertainment will be provided. Let’s support local talent and move our youths from drugs,” he said.

“I hope to give them soccer balls and kits after the tournament and open the idle eMasotsheni Ground.”

Moyo said he was happy to have the opportunity to assist youths.

“I am excited as a youthful leader to assist youths to get out of drugs and be involved in decision-making for their future,” Moyo said.
