SIX Zanu PF members died on Saturday while 18 others sustained serious injuries when a vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck along the Murambinda-Betera Road on their way to vote in the party’s primary elections.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident, saying the deceased’s names would be disclosed in due course.

Three died on the spot, while the other three died on admission at Murambinda General Hospital.

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 25/03/23 along Murambinda-Betera Road, near Mugombe Primary School, in which six people died, while 18 others were injured when an Isuzu lorry with 40 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Nissan Diesel truck which had one passenger on board,” Nyathi said.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Murambinda Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.”
