A FOETUS was last Saturday found dumped at Woodlands dumpsite in Gweru, police have confirmed.

A FOETUS was last Saturday found dumped at Woodlands dumpsite in Gweru, police have confirmed.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the discovery.

“Police in Gweru request assistance from the public in the investigation of a case of concealment of birth, where a human foetus was found at a dumpsite,” Mahoko said.

“The foetus was discovered on June 15 at around 10:30am at Woodlands dumpsite in Gweru by Annastancia Venge, a female aged 53 of Mambo suburb who was looking for plastic containers.”

Mahoko said Venge made a report at ZRP Nehanda and the foetus was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

In an unrelated incident, a 36-year-old Shurugwi man died on Sunday after he was stabbed by eight unknown men.

Mahoko said on June 15 at around 8pm at KwaDhivha tuckshop, Dhija mining area in Shurugwi, Tyson Matarise was drinking beer with several others.

He said a group of eight men armed with machetes and Columbia knives arrived at the place and assaulted Matarise over an undisclosed issue.

“Matarise managed to run away from the scene, but the gang gave chase and caught up with him before they took turns to stab him several times all over the body with Columbia knives until he fell down bleeding profusely,” he said.

He was admitted at Shurugwi District Hospital, where he died the following day.
