Binga Kasambabezi Marathon, BaTonga Cultural Festival join hands

Binga Kasambabezi Marathon chairperson Ringo Ncube said they were expecting to host the seventh edition of the event on September 28, with 700 athletes expected to participate.

BINGA Kasambabezi Marathon has joined hands with BaTonga Cultural Festival in a development meant to promote tourism in the area, Southern Eye has learnt.

Binga Kasambabezi Marathon chairperson Ringo Ncube said they were expecting to host the seventh edition of the event on September 28, with 700 athletes expected to participate.

The event will be held under the theme The Power of Sports in Preservation of Natural Resources and Mitigating Human and Wildlife Conflicts Emanating from the Effects of Climate Change: A Community Driven Participation Initiative.

Ncube said the marathon would coincide with the second edition of the BaTonga Cultural Festival.

“We want to promote tourism in the district (Binga) and use sports as a vehicle to showcase our culture to the world,” Ncube said.

“We are expecting a full house of close to 700 athletes. We will start by showcasing our culture through the cultural festival from September 26 to 28, culminating in the marathon on the 28th.”

He said the reason behind combining the two events was to promote tourism, sports and the BaTonga culture.

Ncube said the event was reliant on partners and well-wishers, and prize money was determined by their contributions.
