A Harare man does not want his wife to go to school to further her studies or to look for work saying she will be exposed to bad people.
This emerged at the Harare Magistrates court where Kelly Garawa was accusing her husband Philemon Machada of financial abuse.
They appeared before magistrate Sharon Mashavira on Thursday.
Garawa said she recently got a job at a fast-food outlet, but her husband intimidated her against taking the offer.
“He says I cannot go to work because he opened the hardware for me to run and that I would be exposed to bad influence,” she said.
“However, every month, he harasses me and takes all the profits for himself, saying it is his business.”
Garawa said Machada recently chased her away from their matrimonial home.
Mashavira granted her application for a peace order and ordered Machada to stop abusing his wife.
