A HARARE street kid, who was allegedly part of a gang of vagrants that killed a person during a robbery, was arraigned before provincial magistrate Apollonia Marutya on Friday facing murder charges.
The suspect, Takudzwa Mombeshora (20), was remanded to February 7 pending indictment.
Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi told the court that the deceased was walking along Nelson Mandela Street at around midnight when he was confronted by Mombeshora and his accomplices.
The vagrants allegedly grabbed the victim’s bag and pushed him to the ground and his head hit the tarmac.
They stole his wallet containing US$10 and cellphone and fled the scene.
The victim’s body was later discovered by a street kid, who reported the incident to the police.
A postmortem revealed that the cause of death was due to head trauma and subdural hematoma.
Investigations led to the arrest of Mombeshora who had gone into hiding at Copacabana.
