Man rapes neighbour’s child

News
Harare magistrate

A HARARE man was on Friday sentenced to 15 years in jail for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.

The convict, Moses Jimu, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Loice Mukunyadze.

Mukunyadze ruled that there was overwhelming evidence against the convict.

Prosecutor Shambadzeni Fungura said sometime in October last year, the minor went to fetch water at a community borehole in the company of her niece.

Jimu then called the minor, who is his neighbour, to his house and indecently assaulted her.

Fungura said Jimu later forced the minor into his bedroom where he raped here once without protection.

The matter came to light when the minor narrated her ordeal to her niece.

The niece told their parents, and they reported him to the police leading to his arrest.
