
A Harare accountant was allegedly duped by a bogus car dealer who took US$5600 from her after promising to help import a car from the United Kingdom but never delivered.
The suspect Boldness Muchiwana appeared in court last week facing fraud charges and was released on US$100 bail.
The complainant is Chayedza Chitando.
Prosecutors alleges that sometime in May 2024, Chitando complainant wanted to import a Toyota Starlet from US$8 500 from the United Kingdom and started looking for car dealers to assist her.
The court heard that she was referred to Muchiwana and the two later met in person.
On June 6 last year, the accused was given US$2700 as down payment with the remainder expected in instalments.
Muchiwana promised to have the vehicle delivered by March this year.
On July 19, 2024 the suspect was given US$2900.

Despite receiving money from the complainant, the accused person failed to import the vehicle.
Several efforts were made by the complainant to engage Muchiwana but he became evasive.
The complainant reported him to police leading to his arrest.
