Due to high unemployment, Zimbabweans are into illegal pool betting

Thus, Zimbabweans seeking quick and easy money are fond of betting on unofficial sports competitions. Although Zimbabwe is not even among the top five countries with developed gambling, the problem of illegal betting is now particularly acute.

Zimbabwe is a state located in the southern part of the African continent. It is famous for its wildlife. About 10% of the country's territory is occupied by nature reserves. But this is not what the country is primarily known for. Many people associate Zimbabwe with poverty, high unemployment, low standard of living, lack of legal ways to earn money, etc.

Economic instability is the main problem of this African state. To survive, locals resort to various methods, often illegal. Thus, Zimbabweans seeking quick and easy money are fond of betting on unofficial sports competitions. Although Zimbabwe is not even among the top five countries with developed gambling, the problem of illegal betting is now particularly acute.

Recently, American pool tournaments (one of the varieties of billiards) have become popular in the country. Billiard tables began to appear in different regions of Zimbabwe, and crowds of locals gathered around them to place bets and make illegal wagers. As a rule, a certain amount of money must be paid to participate in the tournament. The money collected from the participants forms a total prize fund.

Since the country's unemployment rate is catastrophic, participation in unofficial billiard tournaments and illegal betting is an acceptable way to earn money. Many locals are into it.

Although such betting activities are prohibited and illegal in Zimbabwe, law enforcement agencies are not challenged to bribe. For a small amount of money, police officers “turn a blind eye” to unlawful billiard tournaments held quietly and unhindered in different parts of the country.

It is also sad that not only unemployed locals but also members of the Zimbabwean government are trying to profit from illegal gambling. About a year ago, the country's leadership decided to legalize online gambling. As representatives of the authorities said, this step was to ensure the inflow of taxes from gambling operators to the state budget and, thus, to boost the country's economy. Also, the government promised that many Zimbabweans would get jobs after the legalization of online casinos.

Due to this decision, online gambling started to grow in the country. Many casino operators emerged from the shadows and began offering visitors a wide range of gambling entertainment, including one of the most popular games: Plinko. You can play it directly on the casino websites, which can be found on this site

Although the law was passed and gambling establishments became regulated at the state level, many locals continue to engage in illegal betting. The problem with controlling the gambling industry is observed not only in Zimbabwe but throughout Africa.
