Title rivals face tough weekend

Dynamos and Chicken Inn face tough fixtures this weekend as they chase after Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table toppers FC Platinum.

Last week the two failed to take advantage of FC Platinum’s draw with Ngezi Platinum as DeMbare were held to a goalless draw by ZPC Kariba while Chicken Inn fell further behind following a defeat to Black Rhinos.

Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum remain atop on the log standings with 52 points from 25 games while Dynamos are second, six points behind with Chicken Inn a point further back.

Dynamos face struggling Harare City on Sunday, but are wary of their city rivals who are in the relegation dogfight. Harare City are 16th after a goalless draw with Bulawayo Chiefs at the National Sports Stadium last Saturday.

Chicken Inn have not been consistent lately and are slowly slipping out of the matrix ahead of a tough encounter against Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The log leaders, FC Platinum, who are chasing a fourth title on the trot, also have it tough on Saturday at Mandava Stadium when they host Manica Diamonds.

Bulawayo City, who are 15th and also in the relegation zone, head to Gibbo Stadium for a date with Triangle on Sunday.

Struggling Tenax host ZPC Kariba at Vengere on Sunday with both teams desperate for maximum points.

Basement side WhaWha are away to Cranborne Bullets at Vengere on Saturday

Highlanders herald the weekend games with a match against Yadah at the National Sports Stadium on Friday while Caps United will host Herentals at the same venue on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Highlanders have confirmed that their top striker and leading scorer Lynoth Chikuhwa has committed to the club by extending his stay by another two years to December 2024.

“We are delighted to confirm that Lynoth Chikuhwa has extended his contract with the club until December 2024,” the Bulawayo giants said yesterday.
