Bosso grab first win, end Rhinos jinx

Highlanders VS Black Rhinos

HIGHLANDERS coach Baltermar Jose De Oliveira Brito collected his side’s first set of three points this season against Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium yesterday, ending a four-year away run without beating the army side in a topflight match.

Despite Highlanders having managed a nil-all draw in their season opener, wins by 2022 champions FC Platinum, rivals Dynamos and Caps United had already set him on the back foot.

A 57-minute strike from Bosso 90 graduate McKinnon Mushore was enough for the pressure to lessen.

The young Mushore was promoted from the developmental side Bosso 90 after joining the former champions from Northern Region Division One side Golden Eagles.

It was Mushure's first goal and first start after coming in the second half in the ZPC Kariba stalemate.

“He is new to the senior team and I am happy for him, he played very well today and he showed quality.

"We hope that he improves from what he showed today in the next encounters.

“On winning against Rhinos, as a club, we play to win, but sometimes we can't get the desired result. We are happy to have won today and we are taking each game as it comes. It was a good game where both teams wanted to win and we are happy to be the ones who managed to collect a full set of points,” said Brito.

Despite the loss, Black Rhinos Coach Stix Mtizwa was happy with his side’s performance.

“We created chances in the match but we failed to get that creativity to bury the chances.

“Overall, my boys played well considering that we are composed of very young and inexperienced players. Some of them it was the first time to play a big team like Highlanders,” he said.

Bosso plays champions FC Platinum in the next encounter with Brito saying he will approach the match as any other game.

“Yes we are playing against FC Platinum, the champions, but it's just another game we should approach, the way we prepare for every other game,” he said.
