ZWPSL releases 2025 fixture

Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League

THE Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) has unveiled its highly anticipated fixture for the forthcoming 2025 season.

The new season promises to deliver high-intensity matches, featuring 16 top-flight teams competing in a total of 240 matches over a 30-week period.

Reigning champions Herentals Queens will kick off their title defense away from home against runners-up Black Rhinos Queens in a mouth-watering encounter. The same week will see Correctional Queens host fellow Uniformed Forces outfit Black Mambas Queens.

Newly promoted teams Kwekwe Queens and Mpopoma Queens from Bulawayo will make their debut in the top-flight league. Kwekwe Queens will face Faith DRIVE Academy, while Mpopoma Queens will host city mates Highlanders Royals in a Bulawayo derby.

Airforce side Chapungu, who finished third last season, will welcome Conduit Soccer Academy to their home ground. Other exciting matches in week one include Platinum Royals versus Harare City Queens, Miningi Youth Soccer Academy against Sheasham Gweru Queens, and Red Buffaloes hosting fellow newcomers Cranborne Royals.

The venues for these matches are yet to be announced, pending the outcome of the ongoing joint grounds inspection by ZIFA and ZWPSL.

ZWPSL board member competitions Arthur Gorejena expressed his excitement for the upcoming season.

"Last year's league was decided by a single point, with Herentals piping Rhinos to the crown. This season promises to be just as intense, with high-intensity and entertaining games on the cards," Gorejena told Standardsport .

Gorejena emphasised ZWPSL's commitment to promoting and developing women's football in the country.

"We're confident that this season will be one of the most exciting yet, featuring top-notch teams and players vying for the top spot," he added.

The league received a significant boost last year, courtesy of a $320,000 sponsorship from The Heart Group of Companies, led by its president Walter Magaya. The sponsorship covered both the league and the lucrative Heart Tournament, which was won by Chapungu.

Magaya has hinted at an even bigger and better sponsorship deal for the upcoming season, valued at $1.2 million. Although details are still pending, ZWPSL is eagerly anticipating this significant investment in women's football.

ZWPSL will hold its Annual General Meeting in Harare on March 1, where further details on the season and any sponsorship deals are expected to be revealed.
