Magaya opens stadiums for ZWPSL

The Heart Stadium Main and B Arena will play host to several ZWPSL clubs, including Harare City Queens, Maningi Youth Soccer Academy, and Black Rhinos Queens, who had made formal requests to use the facilities.

PROPHET Walter Magaya, president of the Heart Group of Companies, has availed two of his stadiums for use during the forthcoming Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL).

The Heart Stadium Main and B Arena will play host to several ZWPSL clubs, including Harare City Queens, Maningi Youth Soccer Academy, and Black Rhinos Queens, who had made formal requests to use the facilities.

Magaya, a renowned supporter of women's football, made the announcement during the ZWPSL annual general meeting held at his Yadah Hotel in Waterfalls yesterday.

He assured the league of his continued support.

"We have had men's Premiership teams as well as some in Division 1 approaching me with a view to use the grounds for their respective league programmes, but you came first, so you are going to be using the grounds as per your request," he said.

Magaya acknowledged that there might be challenges in balancing the schedules of various teams but expressed his commitment to finding a solution.

"We will see how best we can strike a balance so that we can all get to use the grounds without any clashes in the program," Magaya said.

Last year, Magaya rebranded the league to The Heart Women Soccer League, injecting US$320,000 into the competition midway through the season.

The sponsorship also included a 16-team knockout tournament worth over US$60,000, with lucrative rewards for both clubs and individual awards.

Each team walked away with at least US$1500 each for the bottom eight knocked out in first round.

Inaugural Heart Women Soccer League Tournament champions Chapungu Queens pocketed US$10 000, trophy and medals, runners-up Black Mambas Queens got US$5000, Herentals walked away with US$3000 for being number three while the four knocked out at quarterfinal stage received US$2000 each.

Magaya wants to increase his sponsorship from last year's investment.

ZWPSL chairperson Theresa Maguraushe expressed gratitude to Magaya for his continued support.

"We are deeply thankful to Prophet Magaya for his continued support," she said.

"His generosity and passion for women's football have made a significant impact on our league, and we are honoured to have him as a partner."
