DeMbare fire blanks

In his post match comments, the Dynamos gaffer refused to be critical of his young squad which he believe will come right very soon.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Chigowe is backing his strikers to come right in the next few games after they once again fired blanks against a determined Herentals at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

After the Harare giants were frustrated to a goalless draw by Zpc Kariba in their opener last week, Chigowe's men were again shut out by the Students in a game that never got into second gear.

Dynamos had chances to score and even bury their opponents in the first half, but a combination of bad luck and wastefulness saw them fail to hit the back of the net.

Their Ghanaian import Frank Agymang hit the post twice to add on to Tellmore Pio's effort, which also rattled the woodwork.

Temptation Chiwunga's dipping freekick was kicked away by Herentals keeper Takudzwa Chikosi as Dynanos threatened to run over Herentals in a dominant first half.

In the second half, Elton Chikona headed over a good cross cross from leftback Abel Gwatidzo and the striker nearly caught Chikosi with a snap shot from inside the box, which was instinctively clawed behind the post by the Herentals keeper.

The Students had their chances of their own.

Tino Benza's cutback after he had done well to beat two markers was wasted by Lot Chiunga who connected tamely straight at the keeper Tafiremutsa. That was the first of the two chances that the former Caps United striker wasted.

Tinashe Mupumha also had a half chance but could not make it count.

In the end, a goalless draw was probably a fair result although Chigowe felt his charges deserved more.

In his post match comments, the Dynamos gaffer refused to be critical of his young squad which he believe will come right very soon.

"We need to give these boys confidence and work a lot in front of goal," Chigowe said.

"Obviously there is a lot that is needed to improve a team. It's never going to happen in one day but I think we are in the right direction. Hopefully when we come again next week we will give it a good go. This showing, if anything to go by, we will come right going forward."

"We building a team and team building is a process but I think in terms of chances we got clear-cut chances. We created some very good chances, retained the ball, more than them and we were the better side. It's unfortunate we could not put the ball into the back of the net."

Yesterday's result left Dynamos on 10th position with two points from two matches.

Herentals remained top of the log with four points although they could be dislodged after today's matches.

Herentals coach Paul Benza is satisfied with how his team played has started the season

"It was a very difficult game and Dynamos came on us in the first half and they got a lot of chances but they failed to convert those chances," Benza said. "We are very happy because at the end of the day we managed to keep a clean sheet and get a crucial one point.

"We are happy with the way we have started the season because last season we started very badly. This season managing to go two games without a defeat, we are happy and hope that going forward we are going to keep on collecting those points."
