Reigning Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona and dynamic midfielder Mthokozisi Msebe both found the back of the net, while a late own goal from unfortunate substitute defender Takunda Chanata sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory for Scottland over a struggling Bikita Minerals side at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

Following two consecutive league matches without a win, the Scottland side, nicknamed Mabviravira, understood the importance of securing maximum points on their home turf against Bikita Minerals, a team many anticipated they would overcome.

They subsequently delivered a performance worthy of the win, perhaps even deserving of more than the three goals they ultimately scored.

Scottland coach, Tonderai Ndiraya said he expected his team to win the match

"I think we expected to win and we won and that is what is important. We were coming from a background of a defeat by former champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and of course we improved by drawing in a very tight fixture in Bulawayo against Highlanders and then today we won. If you look at the trend it's an improvement which I am so excited about," he said.

" I thought we competed very well and had total dominance in the first half, but I was not too pleased with our finishing and creativity as we weren't fashioning any clearcut chances. Of course the goal came from Walter Musona through that assist by Vassili Kawe, but we were not really good in the final third," he added.

Bikita Minerals coach Wilson Mutekede felt defensive lapses was a key factor in their defeat.

"I think it's a match that we started very slowly and in the same phase of the game we then conceded a goal. It was a goal that I thought we could have done better to avoid," said Mutekede.

"But as we went behind, we struggled to get to grips with the situation while Scottland got better and better. We then made mistakes at the back and those mistakes determined the game. We tried to come back, but by then it was a bit late."

Scottland took a 1 - 0 lead to the break after Musona headed home a Gareth Madhake cross after 25 minutes.

Msebe then doubled the lead early in the second half with a well taken volley after a Khama Billiat pass.

The watch ended as a contest when Chanata turned a Panashe Mutimbanyoka cross into his own net 15 minutes before full-time.

As a result of this victory, Scottland has climbed to second position in the league standings with 10 points, trailing league leaders MWOS FC by a single point after their narrow one-nil win against ZPC Kariba at Baobab Stadium.

Conversely, Bikita Minerals now occupy the second from bottom spot on the table with a mere two points from their opening five fixtures.
