
The Zimbabwe senior women rugby team finished the Rugby Africa Women's Cup Division One tournament with a defeat after they were hammered by 63 - 7 by eventual champions Uganda in San Pedro, Ivory Coast yesterday.
Uganda qualified for the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Cape Town this May after going through the tournament unbeaten.
The Lady Sables began the tournament on a high with a 46 – 8 win over hosts Ivory Coast in their first match.
In the second match the team suffered a heart-breaking 27 - 24 loss to Tunisia , right at the end after managing to overturn a 12 point deficit to take the lead.
And yesterday, the Lady Sables were hoping to cause an upset and beat a red-hot Uganda side and possibly snatch the sole ticket to the main Africa Cup event.
But a dominant Uganda rallied to a 29 - 0 lead at the break before recording the biggest win of the tournament against Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe went into the tournament as the lowest ranked team and competed extremely well despite the massacre in their final match.
Tunisia claimed a 34 - 0 win over hosts Ivory Coast in their final match of the tournament to finish in second place with two wins in three matches

Their only loss came against Uganda where they succumbed to a respectable 27 - 10 scoreline.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Under-20 men rugby side's Bathes Trophy hopes suffered a major blow after they lost 41 -22 to Namibia at Old Hararians Sports Club yesterday.
Zimbabwe are hosting the event for the second year running and are looking to reclaim the title which they lost to Kenya last year.
The Shaun De Souza coached Young Sables had a slow start to the game as they found themselves 27 - 5 down at the break.
And despite a brilliant second half performance the deficit proved too big to overturn as their southern African rivals recorded a comfortable victory.
In the first match of the four team tournament, defending champions Kenya managed to beat Tunisia 29 - 21, a scoreline that would encourage other rivals.
The Young Sables play Tunisia on Wednesday next week while Kenya entertains Namibia.
Zimbabwe will conclude their campaign with a date against Kenya on Saturday.
