BY DANIEL NHAKANISO TOP junior golfers Keegan Shutt and Margaret Nyamukondiwa are in contention to complete a home sweep for the respective boys’ and girls’ titles at the inaugural First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open after they posted solid scores during the second round at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate yesterday.
After a first-round 80, Nyamukondiwa who has been enjoying a remarkable season held onto her lead in the overall girls with a steady second round of 77.
Nyamukondiwa leads by just nine shots from Primrose Chikwaya after the Royal Harare Golf Club-based player followed up her opening round 82 by carding 84.
Kudzai Mandava is in third position on a gross of 174 after posting 84 and 90 while China’s Mu Yuxuan (88 and 90) is in fourth position.
The competition is tighter in the boys’ competition, where the inform Shutt carded a two-over-par 74 to move into second position and three shots adrift of the lead ahead which should be an exciting final round at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate today.
Fresh from claiming the top amateur honours at last week’s Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned FBC Zim Open, Shutt, will be aiming to win the inaugural Zimbabwe Junior Golf Open to add to the Harare Amateur Championship he won recently.
The Chapman Golf Club sensation, who is based at the KeNako Academy in George, South Africa also dominated the Matabeleland Majors on the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association winning two tournaments last month.
Shutt will begin the final round, three shots behind South Africa’s Ian Vorster, who vaulted into the lead after following up his opening 71 by carding a level-par round of 72 for a 36-hole total of one-under-par 143.
