This year’s edition of the National Education Conference and Expo (NECE) serves as a hub for knowledge exchange, networking and collaboration, offering a dynamic platform for stakeholders in the education sector to learn, engage and grow, organisers have said.
NECE, which is now in its third year, will be held in Harare on May 28 to 30, bringing together educators, policymakers and industry experts from around the country to share their knowledge and insights on the latest trends and issues in education.
Running under the theme Transforming Education in Zimbabwe: Embracing Innovation and Excellence, the conference provides a platform to network, collaborate and learn in order to improve educational practices and outcomes.
“The conference aims to complement government efforts and initiatives in the educational sector to achieve Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG4 on Education,” said Alson Darikayi, president of Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe, organisers of the conference.
“The theme emphasises the need for a paradigm shift in Zimbabwe’s education sector, focusing on innovative practices, cutting-edge technologies and excellence in teaching and learning.
“By embracing innovation and excellence, the conference seeks to contribute to the transformation of Zimbabwe’s education sector, ultimately improving the quality of education and preparing learners for success in the 21st century.”
Darikayi said conference outcomes would include a comprehensive report on the state of education in Zimbabwe, a set of recommendations for improving education as well as establishment of partnerships and collaborations among stakeholders
Thematic areas of discussion would dwell on infrastructure development and education financing, education policy and governance, digital transformation in education, STEM education and innovation as well as policy and future trends in education.

Sustainable and inclusive education, teacher capacity development and professionalism, curriculum reform and heritage/competency-based learning are some of the topics to be deliberated on.
The conference is targeted at government ministries and departments, government ministers, Parliamentary portfolio committees, local authorities, Primary and Secondary Education ministry officials, regulatory authorities in the education sector, education associations as well as school heads, administrators, owners and directors.
School bursars and accountants, education secretaries and school responsible authorities, education NGOs and organisations, private sector companies and international organisations are also expected to attend.
Darikayi said an expo will be held concurrently with the conference bringing together stakeholders such as product and service providers from all sectors such as banks, construction companies, tertiary and vocational institutions, food manufacturers, vehicle and bus suppliers, insurance companies, to showcase products and services of interest to the education sector.
