ZIMBABWEAN actor Charles Kamara has been nominated as the Best Actor for the Zambian Sotambe International Film Festival which will run from September19-24.
Kamara features in movies such as Vhunze, Chipo the Gift, The Lamb, Chihombiro and 206 Bones that show on DStv channel’s Zambezi Magic.
The Sotambe Film Festival is the biggest film fete in Zambia that seeks to promote the film industry in that country and Southern African region.
Sotambe means “come and watch”.
The film festival was established in 2014 in Zambia’s Copperbelt province and this year’s edition runs under the theme lnfinite horizons: Create the world we want.
Kamara started acting in 1991 in community theatres and he attributes his success to the passion he has for acting.
“Passion comes first and then the passion will then pay,” he said.
“Upcoming actors and actresses should self-inspire themselves, rehearse before going on set.

“Research about the character, you should not be pushed by directors.
“When given the character, l live in the character, be it onset or offset like what l do that way they will not go wrong.”
Melgin Tafirenyika, whose film titled Are We Strangers was nominated Sotambe Film Festival, said Kamara deserves the accolade.
“Kamara is always on time when it’s shooting time, he has great team work,” Tafirenyika said.
“He has put Zimbabwean actors on an international level and is so pleased by his commitment when it comes to acting.”
Munashe Chitsiga, the writer of the movie titled The Lamb said: “This is just the beginning, Zimbabwean actors should learn from Kamara and actors should unite in order to put Zimbabwean film on the highest level.”
Kamara appreciated the support he got from Tafirenyika and Chitsiga who have helped him realise his dream.
“Tafirenyika and Chitsiga gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent in The Lamb which saw me being nominated among the best actors and I appreciate that,” Kamara said.
