FORMER Ilanga lead singer Busi Ncube says she felt a sense of belonging after her recent performance at The Place in Bulawayo.
This comes after she and Keith Farquharson staged a show — Busi Ncube and Friends ILanga Legacy Concert - which aimed to reminiscence and commemorate departed colleagues in the once star-studded outfit.
Ncube, who took to the stage to a fully packed venue, was clad in black and white pants and did not disappoint. She gave the ultimate performance leaving tongues wagging.
Her band included Blessing Sitotombe on bass, Hudson Simbarashe (guitar), Erastus Nleya (drums and vocals), Samuel Mabhena (keyboards) , Benjamin Shawa (keyboards) , Blessing Muparutsa (drums) and David Mabhena (vocals).
She and her friends sang yesteryear songs with people singing and dancing along and indeed the vibe was correct! Some of the songs include —Ngihlangabeze, Gonaramachingura Zvikomborero, Silver and gold, Bulawayo, Siyalonda, Shosholoza ,True Love to name a few.
“My stay has been wonderful and spent mostly in the rehearsal room. Now that the show is done I can sit and reflect and enjoy my holidays,” Ncube told Standard Style.
“The recent show was amazing and the crowd ILanga fans turnout was overwhelming and welcoming. I felt a sense of belonging and being knowing and seeing the audience singing along and dancing throughout the two hour gig.”
Some fans complained that they had been starved of her kind of music especially music shows. Asked if more shows like these were coming , she said: “Most likely it seems real there is a gap of this kind of music ..we will definitely do a follow up , after we do proper planning and preparations ,not only for one place but multiple cities in Zimbabwe…”

Ilanga, which comprised the late Don Gumbo, Dixon Chingaire (popularly known as Cde Chinx) Gibson Batishta, Adam Chisvo, Munya Brown, Gibson Nyoni, the late Virgillio Ignacia, Keith Farquharson and Andy Brown was a household name in the 1990s before members went their separate ways to pursue solo projects.
