The Zimbabwe Musicians Union has challenged local musicians to consider themselves as "workers" and not regard their craft as a hobby.
The union has extended an invitation to musicians based in Chitungwiza to register for a workshop that will be held at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre on October 11 aimed at defining their work.
The training session is part of the union’s series of workshops being conducted in Bulawayo, Gweru , Mutare and Masvingo.
President of Zimbabwe Musicians Union Edith WeUtonga confirmed the developments to Standard Style yesterday.
“The workshop will be conducted under the banner Musician as a worker and will explore what it means to be a worker. It is aimed to determine whether musicians consider themselves as workers," she said.
Edith WeUtonga outlined requirements to participate in the workshop.
“You must be a singer, producer, instrumentalist, producer etc, must be a Zimbabwean, participants must be willing to participate in this workshop in its entirety, registrations are only open to serious and dedicated artists.”
Besides the workshop, Edith WeUtonga said participants will elect committee members with assistance from ZIMU management, which will conduct the voting process.
