SOUTH Africa-based, Bulawayo producer DJ Jabs is ecstatic to have his name mentioned in the Grammy Awards.
DJ Jabs' contributed on Ugandan Eddy Kenzo’s new album Blessings and single Ukulele Esanyo with Daniel Ho, which are up for two Grammy Awards.
“I have been producing for Eddy Kenzo for a while now. This is his second album I got to produce and it’s the one that has the single I produced — Ukulele Esanyo — with Daniel Ho a six time Grammy winner.
“The single, together with the album, Blessings is being considered for Grammys so it’s a double consideration. I am excited about this. You know just to have your name mentioned around Grammys is a big deal. Millions of songs are released on a daily basis, so imagine your work being the one given a nod, it's thrilling,” DJ Jabs told Standard Style.
DJ Jabs said Zimbabwe had so much talent that it can compete with others on a bigger and worldwide stage.
Born in Bulawayo , DJ Jabs grew up listening to the late Don Gumbo, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi and Lovemore Majaivana’s music.
“Growing up, my voice wasn’t good enough to sing hence I settled for music production. I was mentored by the late Joe Maseko and ever since I have been doing that. I moved to South Africa around 2013 to pursue my studies and music remained on my side," he said.
“Yes, I have my own songs; as a matter of fact, a whole album called Home Made because I recorded it here at home. It’s an Afro-pop, a 20-track album which is a mixture of Shona and Ndebele songs themed around love, gospel, weddings, partying, and distress.”
