Mokoomba to unveil new acoustic set

Another Mokoomba international tour highlight is their scheduled appearance in London where they will be performing at the Jazz Café on August 21.

Multi-award-winning Afro-fusion outfit Mokoomba makes a return to Reps Theatre in Belgravia, Harare on March 8.

Followers of the globe-trotting six-piece band are in for a treat as Mokoomba will be unveiling a brand-new acoustic set. Their acoustic-themed performance at the same venue last year is still etched in the memory of their multitude of followers and stands out as an exhibition of pure musicianship.

In February, the internationally top charting group headlined the Marrabenta Festival in Marracuene, Mozambique alongside musician Morena Leraba from Lesotho and is gearing up for another line-up of tours outside the country.

Band manager Marcus Gora told Standard Style that the band is preparing for a tour that will see Mokoomba headlining the 53rd edition of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival set to take place from April 25 to May 5 in New Orleans in the American state of Louisiana.

The festival is an annual celebration of the unique culture and heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana and will be graced by the English rock band The Rolling Stones which is one of the greatest bands in the history of the genre of Rock and Roll. Also playing at this year’s festival are American rapper and actress Queen Latifah and Jamaican American musician Stephen Marley among a host of other guest artists who will be showcasing a variety of music styles.

The festival has a history of blending a wide mix of internationally renowned bands and artists such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Hugh Masekela, and Youssou N’Dour among many other world music icons.

Last year, ‘Nzara Hapana’ the first single from Mokoomba’s European top charting album Tusona: Tracings in the sand, took the top spot in the Classic 263 top 50 Chart Show.

In 2023 the album was rated as one of the best by World Music Charts Europe (WMCE). Once a month radio world music specialists from twenty-four European countries select their individual top ten favourites out of current world music releases from their playlists. The top 20 is then published as the World Music Charts Europe and the charts are played throughout Europe on various radio stations.
