Xmas cheer: What local celebs are up to this holiday

Kikky Badass

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The trees are lit, the socks are hung, and your favourite celebrities are getting into the Christmas spirit.

From Dubai getaways to festive feasts, we've got the scoop on what's on the agenda for some of Zimbabwe’s hottest stars as they align for a holiday to remember.

Standard Style tracked down some of the country’s famed personalities to find out what they will be doing this Christmas.

Here's what they had to say:

"So for Christmas, I will be travelling to Dubai with my family,” said rapper Kikky Badass.

“I am pretty excited about that because there will be my mom, my sister, my aunt. We are not really a big family.

“Well, we are a big family with relatives and all, but my immediate family is very small, so I am actually very excited to be travelling with them.

“I do not take it for granted that I am alive right now; it's a big blessing really.

“Merry Christmas to you as well and your readers and the rest of the nation. Enjoy this time with your family and enjoy being alive.”

ZimCelebs creator and chief-blogger Tafadzwa Gondo, popularly known as Uncle Munhumutapa, said he would spend Christmas with young children.

"This Christmas, I'm planning something special. I've organized a small event in Harare where we'll have a festive gathering with music, dance, and local food. It's my way of giving back to the community,” he said.

“We'll have a big Christmas tree lighting, where some artists will perform holiday tunes, and there will be workshops for kids to make their own ornaments, promoting creativity and joy.

“Beyond the festivities, I'm also setting aside time for personal reflection with loved ones, enjoying traditional Zimbabwean Christmas meals, and maybe even sneaking in a visit to the countryside to soak in the serene beauty of our land.”

Multi-award-winning fashion designer Bernard Hatirarame of Scarless Designs said this is his favourite time of the year since childhood.

“We get to catch up with our loved ones under relaxed circumstances,” he said.

“This is also a time to reflect on what it means to have a friend in Jesus.

“I personally appreciate everything that I have because this is possibly another person's last Christmas with their loved ones, while for others, it will be their first without.

“So let's remember to be sensitive and inclusive and above all, be grateful. Merry Christmas everyone.”

Socialite and singer Kimberly Richards, who is also the wife of Holy10, said it's a family reunion for her.

"I'll be travelling back home with my son in Bulawayo to be with my family,” Richard's said.

“The usual big family reunion with lots of food, stories to catch up on, and fun.

“My husband, on the other hand, will be working in Kariba on Christmas, then we will have our own family time in January when he's taking a break.

“I cannot wait to be in the full house again.”

Singer and politician Sandra Ndebele said this is actually a time for working for her.

"With us musicians, this is the time when we get fully booked, and so I will be busy on the road,” she said.

“This is a time when families come together with their friends, and we are the entertainment, so I will only be able to go on vacation in January.

“I want to say to my family in ward 22 (where she is a councillor), I love you so much.

“Please be safe and enjoy yourselves. I know that we are living in tough times, let us try to work with what we have and do what we can. Take care of each other.”
