Local aesthetics industry going through transformation: Munemo

Munemo was among scores of people who were honoured at the Zim Community Trailblazers Awards held last Friday in Harare.

The local beauty and wellness sector is undergoing continuous transformation with significant shifts in both consumer preferences and business models reshaping the landscape.

Aesthetic Laser Centre, a local beauty and wellness hub, has taken upon itself to offer diverse services beyond traditional offerings, a trend that will be a key driver for their growth in the coming years.

Led by founder and director Pamela Munemo, Aesthetic Laser Centre has moved in to transform and elevate the local beauty and wellness industry.

Munemo was among scores of people who were honoured at the Zim Community Trailblazers Awards held last Friday in Harare.

She walked home with the Most Outstanding Beauty and Wellness Entrepreneur gong at the fifth edition of the awards which seek to honour trailblazers who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and commitment to creating positive impact in the country.

More than 70 gongs were dished out at the prestigious awards ceremony.

“We are looking forward to expanding the Aesthetic Laser Centre through opening more branches across Zimbabwe,” Munemo told Standard Style.

“We want to establish a training centre that provides professional certification and skills development.

“As aestheticians, we want to advocate for and help create a legal framework and regulations for aesthetic and medical aesthetic treatments in Zimbabwe, ensuring safe and ethical practices.”

Munemo said they will re-launch and rebrand as part of their transition into a full-fledged medical cosmetic surgery facility, offering advanced procedures to meet global standards.

“We will continue to influence and mentor young people, fostering growth in the industry and positioning Zimbabwe as a key player in the African and international aesthetic market,” she said.

Munemo said she was inspired to join the beauty and wellness industry after realising that the country was lagging behind.

“I saw a huge gap in advanced treatments and my goal was to introduce new technologies, making them accessible in Zimbabwe while raising awareness about modern aesthetic treatments,” she said.

“Beyond that, I wanted to increase Zimbabwe’s visibility on the global beauty and wellness stage by bringing world-class services to the country.”

Munemo said they face a plethora of challenges, chief being the community's lack of understanding of new aesthetic treatments.

“There is a lack of qualified personnel in the industry, as there are no specialised training programmes locally,” she said.

“There are no regulations, which make it difficult to standardise treatments and ensure quality control.

“Despite these challenges, we remain committed to pioneering change and growing the aesthetic industry in Zimbabwe.”

Munemo said her recent award was just the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

“Through innovation, mentorship, and expansion, we are determined to put Zimbabwe on the map as a leader in medical aesthetics across Africa and beyond,” she said.
