Aunty Rho’s latest single stirs hearts towards God

Rhoda Chikaponya, aka Aunty Rho

Behind the success of many famous singers, there are often stories of struggle and determination.

One such unique story is that of United Kingdom-based Rhoda Chikaponya, aka Aunty Rho, who began her music career as a backup singer of more popular artists, but has eventually found her own place in the industry.

A devoted Christian, Aunty Rho late last year released her debut project, a single titled Abundant Grace.

“I’m new to the music scene as a solo artist, but I have over a decade of experience as a backing vocalist. So far, I’ve released one single and have a few more on the way,” Aunty Rho told Standard Style.

“Following the loss of my mother, song writing became my solace. Unbeknown to me, God was communicating with me through my music.

“His messages are simple, yet we often complicate them. In the words I penned, God provided me with unimaginable comfort and the strength to move forward with hope for the future.

“It became clear that I couldn't have endured without Him.”

Her musical journey started at the turn of the new millennium.

“I come from a family of five sisters and hold the position of the third-born.

“My journey began in Gweru, moved to Harare in 1997, and eventually brought me to the United Kingdom in 2002.

“I am blessed with two wonderful children, a boy and a girl.”

Aunty Rho said her singing is inspired by the Word of God.

“I am a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ so singing is part of worship and testifying about the Lord’s goodness bring me immense joy,” she said.

“As it is written in 2 Corinthians 12:9, ‘But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’.

“In my weakest moments, the songs I sing are God’s way of fortifying me.

“Reflecting on this, I see that there was no way I could have emerged from the darkest time in my life without the Holy Spirit’s divine intervention.

“God’s power shines brightest in our weakness. When we acknowledge our limitations and lean on Him, His power works through us more effectively.

“With the return of our Lord Jesus Christ imminent, I choose to serve God through the ministry of Worship while I still can.”

Aunty Rho said her goal was to share the same hope, comfort, and divine healing of mind, body, and soul that she received, offering others the strength that God granted her through His word.

“We all face trials and I urge everyone not to be ashamed or disheartened by their transgressions or weaknesses,” she said.

“Instead, rely on God’s grace, find strength amidst challenges, and give glory to God for the strength and power

“He provides in our lives. I pray that the songs God gives me serve as a reminder that human frailty is not a barrier, but a conduit for divine strength.”

Aunty Rho said the single Abundant Grace is available on her YouTube channel Rhorho Music and other online music platforms such as Spotify.

The musician paid tribute to her church oversea Pastor Nyagota and fellow ministers, including Bishop Marozo, Pastor Dube and Pastor Meque.
