Bridgenorth announces recent signings

Last year, the label signed the fiercely talented guitar virtuoso Sylent Nqo and now boasts a stable that also includes the immensely talented mbira songstress Mary Anibal.

Bridgenorth Music, the esteemed record label housed within the state-of-the-art Bridgenorth Studios in Harare's Chisipite suburb, has signed the duo of DJ Chiweddar and rising Afro-pop and Afro-soul sensation Melyssa.

Last year, the label signed the fiercely talented guitar virtuoso Sylent Nqo and now boasts a stable that also includes the immensely talented mbira songstress Mary Anibal.

Chiweddar is a renowned producer and DJ who joins the team as an artist and in-house producer, collaborating with Bridgenorth Music creative director Taku Dzinoreva and a technically precise team that includes Keith Farquharson and Lukas Knaup.

“Bridgenorth Music is proud to announce the signing of two exceptional Zimbabwean artists, Melyssa and Chiweddar, to its growing roster. This move underscores the label’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and pushing Zimbabwean music onto the global stage,” read a statement released by the label during the week.

Mellysa is an Afro-pop songstress, who will not only bring her unique sound to the label but also a fresh, soulful voice to the music industry.

According to the label, her unique blend of emotive storytelling and contemporary African sounds makes her one of the "most promising voices in Zimbabwean music today."

Last month, she released Kumusha Kure a single about the longing for home, produced by Rodney Beatz and Chiweddar.

“Here's to a thrilling new chapter in my music journey. I am so honoured to have Bridgenorth Music by my side and definitely looking forward to creating magic,” the artist shared during an interview with Standard Style.

Chiweddar is known for crafting some of Zimbabwe’s biggest hits.

His expertise in Afrobeat, hip-hop, and pop production has made him a household name.

He contributed to the production of the songs Mvura, Maria Wenyu, and Bhonzo Muderere from Mary Anibal’s debut album Maria Wenyu.

Now stepping further into the spotlight as an artist, his collaboration with Bridgenorth Music marks a new era in his career — one that will see him continue to innovate and elevate the sound of Zimbabwean music.

“This year, I am breaking out from becoming a producer to becoming an artist,” Chikweddar said during an interview on Power Fm radio.

“We are thrilled to welcome Melyssa and Chiweddar to the Bridgenorth family.”

“Both artists embody the essence of what we stand for — authenticity, creativity, and world-class artistry.

“We look forward to amplifying their voices and sharing their music with audiences worldwide.”
